Dear Hughesdirect.co.uk, thank you very much for another email inviting me to purchase cut-price electrical goods from you during your 12 Days of Christmas Sale. Todays email proclaimed it to be the third day of Christmas and, I can only presume, that there are nine more to come. My breath is baited for the bargains that lie ahead. However, I am just writing to inform you that your office calender appears to be broken. The 12 days of Christmas actually starts on Christmas Day. Today is not the third day of Christmas, it is actually the third day of December, and those two things are not the same. Following the logic of your promotion to its natural conclusion Christmas would actually be over by the 13th December, so I would be interested to know what you think happens then. The Christian season we are actually in at the moment is Advent and we are only half way through the first week of Advent; so this is no more Christmas than the beginning of Lent is Easter. In the same way that our Muslim friends would not expect to celebrate Eid at the beginning of Ramadan. Anyway, sorry to bother you in this way but if you are going to use the Christian calender to promote sales of your consumer goods then you might be advised to check that you are doing so correctly.
