Dear Jewish Teenagers of the World, So most, if not all, of you - TopicsExpress

Dear Jewish Teenagers of the World, So most, if not all, of you have heard about the attack in Har Nof, and hopefully are pretty passionate about it. If not, listen up. 2 Palestinian men (who worked in a nearby fish market by the way), entered a shacharit minyan in Har Nof armed with guns and hatchets. Hatchets. They killed 4 rabbis and a policeman, injuring many more. This is not the usual terrorist attack that so many of us feel sad about for an hour or two and then casually brush to the side. A minyan is a warm, safe environment that Jewish people attend so they can connect to their religion by talking to their Creator. The definition of terror is to frighten. The goal of these Palestinian terrorists was to take the beautiful environment of a minyan, that Jewish people consider to be safe and welcoming, and cause terror that would destroy the feeling of safety that warms countless Jews EVERY DAY. Their goal was to frighten people. To get Jewish people to say Maybe I shouldnt go to minyan this morning out of fear. To get Jewish parents to rethink their decision of sending their children to Israel after high school, because the safety and the connection that they felt would be ruined. If we do that, THEN THE TERRORISTS SUCCEEDED. They win. People living in Israel can stand up to this by continuing their daily lives without difference, by attending minyan and developing their connection to G-d, thus re-establishing their feeling of security. But the only way for US, as Jews in America, to fight back against absolute injustice against the Jewish people and against all of Israel, is to EDUCATE OURSELVES. Its OK to be afraid. Its OK to be angry. But, as Jewish teenagers, we need to enlighten ourselves so we can enlighten other people. Do some research. Gain a sense of passion for what your people are going through in your homeland. Take those feelings of sadness, anger, and fright, and use them as fuel, as AMMUNITION, against the uneducated and against the terrorism that our people face. For example, when someone in your public school or on your college campus spews out something anti-Israel, dont just silently nod your head and look away. Take action. Its not enough to sit at home and feel sad. Go straight to the office, whether it be in high school or college, and start an Israel Advocacy club. Or start saying Tehillim and have it mean something to you instead of blankly answering to someone reading it out loud after davening in the morning. KNOW what youre talking about. Be a fighter for the Jewish people and for Israel. Not necessarily with an M-16 or with a grenade, but with your mouth and with your intellect. Because even though were thousands of miles away, we can be on the frontlines.
