Dear Joe, The annual Federal Budget; the one day in the 365/66 - TopicsExpress

Dear Joe, The annual Federal Budget; the one day in the 365/66 days in a year that an economics student feels their degree is somewhat enthralling, and yet you and your LNP possee have made me feel nothing but irate tonight. - Cuts to health / Medicare: because a $7 sick tax is a modest proportion of your income if youre on a minimum wage of $16. The$20bil Medical Research Fund is also a load of bullshit that you have concocted to simply sugarcoat each and every one of your cuts to healthcare. As the rest of the world strives for free universal healthcare, you plan on taking us about fifty steps back. - Cuts to foreign aid : enough said. - Cuts to welfare: anyone under the age of 25 can say goodbye to Newstart and being eligible for Youth allowance. - Raising the pension eligibility age: because my sister and I will be so thrilled to see both my parents working until they are the age of 70 (note the sarcasm if youre reading this, Dad/Mum). - NDIS: Im surprised you havent cut this. That being said, making your rigorous eligibility testing even more difficult than it already has to be is rather insulting. - 16,500 job cuts within the public sector: I dont even know where to begin with this one... - Cuts to Education: dismissing important reform such as the Gonski plan seems foolish, when Australia has some of the lowest rates of learning in the OECD. OH, and thank-you for increasing university fees... really looking forward to paying this all back with interest on top (but cheers, youve done us all a HUGE favour by not deciding that we should not have to pay it upfront). - Cutting funding for the ABC with the Australia Network, leading to the inevitable demise of our national broadcaster: ARE YOU KIDDING ME? - Dismissing all things environmental: You have axed the Australian Renewable Energy Agency and you have the audacity to say that As Australians we must not leave our children worse off ... youve done exactly that by abandoning all environmental policies. Your Direct Action Plan is anything but direct. There are so many more cuts and issues, and I could on forever but it is 11:30 pm and I am tired (from listening to your BS tonight), so I will say this: never have I seen a blatant attack on Australians and our concept of a fair go . Tonights economically illiterate budget is just evident that the Coalition has played politics, and not policy and is a massive insult to Australian citizens. Your attempt at championing economic austerity by targeting those who are the most vulnerable (pensioners, people with disabilities, students, low incoming earning families, the list goes on) makes me sick to my stomach. Im just glad that despite managing to cut $80bill worth of funding, you still found $1m for ballet students boarding accommodation. Sincerely, Not happy Jan. #priorities #2014budget #endofrant #goingtobecomeaballerina #longeststatusever #sorrybutnotsorry
