Dear Jon, I recently re-read Into Thin Air. I do this every few years, and it never fails to grip. My hair practically stands on end. My job is chimney sweeping. Ive fallen a few times, and never enjoy it. Theres sometimes a prelude when I think oh shit... followed by a finality. Other times its been one instant everythings all hunky dorey, and next instant Im in a totally different space all confused wondering where I am. Nothing in between. Besides the tale, I enjoy your writing itself. Spare, but with enough to fully paint the picture. Especially I admire your bravery as a writer, putting yourself out there for anyone to take a swing. Ive recently completed what has turned into a book describing peculiarly male characteristics titled Men Have Three Brains, and let me tell you, many of them show up in your story. I hope youve stopped beating yourself up over that Everest expedition. That is the most hostile to life place we can possibly go on our own two feet and this fact should be accepted by anyone attempting it. From your account, its obvious that you acted with as much bravery and honor as humanly possible. This wasnt a movie, people. With respect, Bernie Nunn
