Dear Lawrence Otis Graham, While I am sure that you perceive - TopicsExpress

Dear Lawrence Otis Graham, While I am sure that you perceive your methods will save your sons, the reality is that they wont. You fail to understand that those who target us because of our color genuinely do not like us. #blacklivesmatter is false in their minds. They could care less how one is dressed. As a matter of fact, the fancier you are the more ANGRIER THEY ARE. Why...because now you are portraying yourself as being better than your betters. Theres no method to your madness. Theres no safety in it either. Rather, you will have sons who will become so rebellious because in your drive to disassociate yourself with who you sre, you are stifling them. Your son is right, you are taking all of the fun out of being a black child. Youre doing so unwarrantedly. Your policies and procedures wont help. Embrace your blackness (no you havent really embraced it). Accept that assimilation wont work. Quite frankly, you are not light enough to pass and they will continue to see a negro who insist that hes on their level. While I am not for the hood mentality, I am also not going to disassociate myself from the reality that my blackness no matter what I do will be an affront to them. I too pray that your sons remain alive. I pray that you remain alive. While our politics arent really the same, I accept you as my black brother. Maybe one day you will accept yourself as that brother. Sincerely, An Educated Black Woman
