Dear Mackenzie Students; Spirit week starts April 28th, and - TopicsExpress

Dear Mackenzie Students; Spirit week starts April 28th, and your Student Council is hard at work planning spirited events for you. Unfortunately, we have hit a bit of a snag. The beloved inflatables that we traditionally feature for Carnival Day will not be present. I was informed of this today, and the reason for it has to do with the TDSBs crackdown on school safety. The board is imposing very strict requirements for fun fair companies that schools do business with, which include insurance coverage of $5,000,000 (yes, you read that right) and police checks for employees. As of right now, there are no fun fair companies that meet these requirements and our school cannot, as a result, do business with them. As I see it, this has to do with the legal protection of the boards assets and the minimization of its liability for injuries. That said, I refuse to let this ruin our spirit week. The money Student Council would have spent on inflatables is still available for us to spend on Carnival Day. Now, I dont want to play the guessing game of deciding on behalf of all of you what that money is best spent on. Student Council represents YOU, and I am eager to hear what you all want to see on Carnival Day (Friday, May 2nd). If there is a game, an activity, an attraction that you would like to see on Carnival Day, please do not hesitate to personally message me. I want whatever it is that you all want and I will do my darnest to make it happen. Keep in mind that there is some serious budget available (in the ballpark of $1,500 - $2,000). Please do not comment your suggestions below, as that usually spirals off into arguments and prevents ideas from being appreciated. Message me personally, and I will compile a list of all the feasible ideas to post up here for a team decision. I am also more than happy to answer any additional questions you may have. ~ Tentative Spirit Week schedule: MONDAY - Mac Monday (were working on another teacher vs student game + school apparel day). TUESDAY - Twinday Tuesday (twin day + best-friend testing) WEDNESDAY - Mac Factor (X-Factor/Talent Show with teacher judges and performers featured). THURSDAY - Club Presidents Day (enjoy the hilarity of club reps battling it out in tests of wit, strength, and artistry). FRIDAY - Carnival Day (extended lunch + FOOD + so many awesome events). Best regards, Your president.
