Dear Medina Chorus members (and possible returning - TopicsExpress

Dear Medina Chorus members (and possible returning members??) The board has approved a $10 increase in the chorus dues, from $40 to $50 -- the first such increase in several years. (Couples will be $75, and the cap on family membership will be $90). The main reason for the increase are higher costs for things like sheet music, printing, rental of the church, piano tunings and website fees. In other chorus developments, Kurt has decided to program Franz Joseph Haydns Lord Nelson Mass for the spring concert next year. Officially titled by the composer Missa in Angustiis, or Mass for Troubled Times, it was written very late in Haydns life, during a time when his country (Austria) was under the threat of invasion by Napoleon. (Troubled Times -- things certainly havent changed much in 200 years.) His chief biographer, H.C. Robbins Landon, has called it Haydns greatest composition. To present this work, we have hired four soloists, and we will have Cathy accompany on the organ. More importantly, Kurt also has been in contact with the pastor of Bath United Church of Christ in Bath Township to discuss the possibility of the chorus singing the mass at the church several days after the regularly scheduled concert at Medina Presbyterian Church on Saturday, May 2, 2015. Bath UCC frequently presents concerts by outside groups, including the noted baroque orchestra from Cleveland, Apollos Fire. This would give our ensemble a chance to make itself known to a completely different audience. It could also result in some new members for the chorus. But we cannot commit to this without an equally definite commitment from choir members. We understand that sometimes circumstances arise where a sudden illness, injury or unforeseen family commitment causes a conflict with being able to sing one or both concerts. However, because of our modest size, each and every individual is essential for balance and power, especially when the ensemble is singing six- or eight-part harmonies. It also affects members who are dependent on hearing a certain voice or two in their singing sphere, and suddenly, that voice (or voices) is absent. It is especially disconcerting when we have asked for members to commit and we find members absent without an explanation. If our ensemble were larger, say 80-90 strong, these unexplained absences wouldnt be such an important issue. I understand its really difficult to commit to this without knowing a definite date, but Id like to hear from each of you, either by email or telephone ( 330-461-3604 ) whether youd be interested in doing this show at Bath UCC. Thank you, Tom
