Dear Members, especially students preparing to take SAT in the future, read about upcoming changes to SAT: College Board announces major changes to SAT ! The College Board announced that they are reforming the SAT, with changes going into effect in the spring of 2016. These are aimed to make the exam reflect current academic and real world skills. Last year 1.7 million students took the SAT (and 1.8 million the ACT). The changes include: - Removing obscure vocabulary words and replacing them with those commonly used at university level (i.e. “synthesis” and “empirical”). - Ending the penalty for guessing wrong. - Reverting to the old 1,600 point total, and making the essay optional. - The test will be offered in print and on computer. - Every exam will include a reading passage either from one of the nation’s “founding documents,” such as the Declaration of Independence or the Bill of Rights, or from one of the important discussions of such texts, such as the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.s “Letter From Birmingham Jail.” - There will also be fee waivers for low-income U.S. domestic students. - In the spring of 2016, the College Board, in partnership with Khan Academy, will offer free online practice problems and instructional videos showing how to solve them.
