Dear Morgan County Students, Parents and Citizens: Posted today on our website is a copy of the proposed budget cuts for the 2014-15 school year. Before you review this document, please keep in mind: 1. We must plan our budget as if no levy exists. This list of reductions, therefore, is based on a scenario with no additional levy funding at all. 2. This is a draft, meaning that we are still collecting feedback at this point. 3. The board plans to decide on the new levy call at their meeting scheduled for November 19th. This list was produced now so they can make an informed decision regarding what should be included in the new levy. While developing this list, three considerations were given: First, it represents dollar for dollar $5.8 million, the same amount that made up the previous levy call. Secondly, it represents cuts that get us back to the BASIC PROGRAM. Anything that is not provided for by basic state aid is on the list. These cuts, to a great extent, represent items that are paid with county funds. Finally, after receiving feedback via surveys and by other means, these cuts also represent items that taxpayers have indicated they felt shouldn’t be paid for with county funds.
