Dear Mr. Stewart: My family of six, husband and four children, - TopicsExpress

Dear Mr. Stewart: My family of six, husband and four children, camp at Moores Springs Campground at least twice per month, as it offers trails for hiking, a canoeing port, privacy in camping, low-cost local nature exploration, and fellowship around campfires with other families, namely Tony McGees. As you know, the bike trails, which have been touted on Fox 8 News and have drawn in bikers from other states as well as our own, are near Camp Sertoma, where some of our public school students attend deaf camp yearly, and where our son has attended a camp that promotes weight loss and healthy habits. Our children have participated in other camps on the Moores Springs camp property as well. We understand that Camp Sertoma and other camps in NC are currently losing money, but families cannot afford camps like they used to because of the recession, which, of course, is just now fading; the summer camping trend will surely get back to normal levels when parents are able again to afford camps for their children. In the meantime, what are you ideas about keeping the camps - and the Moores Spgs. campground and bike trails that are run by volunteers - open? How can citizens like my husband and me (both public school teachers who rely on state-funded parks and 4H for extra-curricular educational and recreational opportunities) help you find funding? Truly, will you send me a list of what we might be able to do NOW to secure funding for Sertoma? You are the one who must know about financial alternatives, surely. We and many other community members are willing to spend a tremendous amount of time to save a resource we desperately need. We did not know that it was in financial trouble until now. Please reach out to us and suggest what we might do to work more closely with you. Sincerely, Mary Lee
