Dear My Fellow Community Members: Without really thinking of the consequences of dumping a bucket of icy water on myself this past Monday night, I wholeheartedly participated in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge and donated money to the association. Yes, the challenge is for a great cause and is spreading awareness about this terrible disease. As TIME has recently published, the ice bucket challenge definitely increased donations exponentially. However, as I have mentioned before, there were consequences of me throwing a bucket of water on my head. Why? Because I, along with hundreds of other people, just used perfectly clean water, meanwhile neglecting the fact that it couldve gone to the 783 million people in the world who dont have access to it. For the rest of you who still havent been nominated or have already participated in the challenge, I strongly encourage you to donate to CharityWater at charitywater.org/whywater/ along with the challenge (only if you choose to do so). A few dollars can really make a difference. While raising awareness for ALS is still very important, we must also focus on the bigger issue here with a global perspective. P.S.
