Dear OB/GYN Young Specialists: An ideal doctor must have three - TopicsExpress

Dear OB/GYN Young Specialists: An ideal doctor must have three qualities. He/she must be a 1. Good clinician 2. Good teacher and 3. Good researcher So research is an integral part of quality medical practice. If you don’t have any question in your mind you will not be able to be an efficient doctor. And that question is research. Are you aware about awards of AOFOG (Asia Oceania Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecology)? This Federation provides two varieties of awards biennially during it’s Congress AOCOG to the young gynaecologists of Asia and Oceania. 1. Young Scientist Award: Based on published research work in Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Research (JOGR), which a candidate earns by his/her efforts. Total 3 persons from 23 member countries get it. The Chairman of the Journal Committee-cum-Editor in Chief of the Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology Research selects ten (10) best articles from those published in the Journal in the preceding two years, that is, between two Congresses. The articles then sent to members of the Editorial Committee to rate each one of them on merit. Based on the returns, the Chairman of the Journal Committee selects three awardees based on the score. The awardees must have been about or under 45 years of age, when the articles are submitted. The Young Scientist Awardee receives the Award in person at the Opening Ceremony of the Congress • a Certificate, signed by the Chairman of the Journal Committee and the President of AOFOG • a Cash Award of US$1,000.00 • a Silver Medal 2. Young Gynaecologist Award (YGA): Based on contribution of gynaecologists to their national society. Three or more gynaecologists from each member country (23 member counties) are selected for this award. Shan S Ratnam YGA and Community Fellowship Program are given to Members and Fellows up to the age of 40 years who have contributed to the activities of their respective soceity. Applicants must submit: • Completed application form • A letter of reference • Brief curriculum vitae • Full unpublished scientific paper Out of many YG awardees only ten best papers will be selected for presentation during the YGA plenary session and other papers will be invited as poster presentations. Shan S Ratnam Young Gynaecologist Awards cover • Return economy air travel to Congress country • Registration to the AOCOG • Participation in the AOCOG Community Fellowship Program (Two weeks) • Weaving of registration fees of next Congress. Till today a number of candidates of our country achieved YGA through local selection. Next congress is going to be held in Malaysia, 3-6 June 2015. So who are below 40 get ready with your paper to submit. You may or may not know about the offer. So interested persons have to keep on eyes towards OGSB office. Very soon society may ask the application. About Young Scientist Award you have to publish your paper in JOGR. It is very tough to publish the article because manuscript must be high quality. But there is nothing impossible as I got it in 2005. Though no 2nd one got till today. My topic was “Loading Dose Versus Standard Regime of Magnesium Sulphate in the Management of Eclampsia- A Randomized Trial. It was the first introduction of only loading dose for managing eclamptic convulsion in the world. In every Congress three awards are going to different countries. So, why you don’t try for one? Be enthusiastic, attend conferences, go through journals, apply intelligence, work hard --award must have to come.
