Dear Palm Springs Supporters of SPARKLE, This afternoon, Desert AIDS Project chose to use the name and reputation of SPARKLE to help sell some new event without my consent. This new event is in no way affiliated with, or supported by myself or the performers who took part in SPARKLE in Palm Springs for multiple years. Since so many of you have asked: the reason that there is no SPARKLE happening in Palm Springs this year is due largely in part to the powers that be at D.A.P. making a decision (under the cloak of calling it a board decision) that they didnt want Sparkle anymore. They used excuses about 3rd party events costing them money (SPARKLE operated completely on generous support from sponsors and didnt cost D.A.P. a single penny). So, if you are upset that SPARKLE is not happening in Palm Springs, you can thank them. Of course, it didnt help our cause that my co-producer Mark Jones helped D.A.P. along with their decision to replace SPARKLE with this new event, where ironically, he is being honored. I will leave it to you to figure that one out... I have kept silent about this issue because I am focusing on the incredible performances of SPARKLE that we have planned in NYC and Los Angeles, benefiting The Actors Fund. As many of you know, I have great affection for Palm Springs and its inhabitants. I have also always supported Desert AIDS Project and the work they do. Its no secret that there is so much mismanagement happening in the upper levels of leadership there, but ultimately I have stayed silent about the truth behind the cancellation of SPARKLE out of respect for the work that the actual facility does, as it is crucial to so many. I did however feel the need to speak my truth when an e-blast from D.A.P. was sent out this afternoon using the SPARKLE name. So again, to be clear: neither myself or SPARKLE is in any way affiliated with, or supporting this new event.
