Dear Parents, Clay Community Schools is proud to be rolling out - TopicsExpress

Dear Parents, Clay Community Schools is proud to be rolling out the 1:1 Laptop Initiative for the start of classes this fall. The laptop program will include students in grades 6 – 12. Each student will receive a laptop computer to be used for educational purposes in the classroom as well as at home. You may follow the progress of the 1:1 Laptop Initiative by visiting our website: clay.k12.in.us and click on the Parent 1:1 Information tab. There are many helpful resources located there. We recommend you view this site and become familiar with our digital learning initiative prior to starting school. Students will take their laptops home and will be responsible for any damage or loss. Therefore, we highly encourage you to pursue purchasing insurance on the laptop through a third party insurance or adding it to your renter’s or home owner’s policy. This is protection for you in case anything happens to the laptop. For your convenience, we have listed on our website the information for purchasing third-party insurance. For one year of coverage, you pay a one-time fee to the Worth Ave. Group. After you compare costs, you may prefer this insurance over adding the laptop to your renter’s, or homeowner’s, policy. Although the computer is an educational tool, parents should still feel free to regulate and monitor its use in the home. Right now, students will have access to the computer 24/7, but that doesn’t mean they need to stay up with it all night. Please monitor and be aware of what your child is doing with technology, and feel free to set rules and boundaries regarding computer usage at home. If at any time you have concerns, please feel free to contact me. We are moving into a new era in education, and this is an exciting time for our secondary students and teachers, Clay Community Schools, and for our community. We have to expand the curriculum if our students are expected to be prepared to meet the challenges of the 21st century in terms of workplace and post-secondary educational demands. These laptops will allow our students to have an active role in shaping learning to their interests and abilities while providing teachers the flexibility to expand their teaching beyond the covers of a textbook. Again, we encourage you to visit our website, and we look forward to seeing you at school. Sincerely, Tammy Kikta 812-448-1530 x1099 [email protected] Technology Integration & Support Specialist
