Dear Participants, dear guests, dear Professor Kitano! In these very troubled times, when violence and war have once again entered our world, music plays a more important role than ever in fostering international understanding between all nations. This is why the Osaka Competition is an important international event, and I am especially happy that this competition is supported by our University for Music and Performing Arts and our Rector Hasitchka. Just as with every competition, not every participant can receive a prize, but such a musical contest represents for every competitor a goal to strive for. Here, much depends on how a performer feels on that particular day, and maybe one’s program might have gone better in the past—but it is less decisive whether you receive a prize, rather it should be for every individual a barometer for where his or her musical education stands at that point in time. More than anything, joy in music-making should hold first priority for us, and through this, our lives are set apart from the rest. Please allow me to congratulate Professor Kitano for the wonderful organization and smooth operation of this competition. The members of the jury also should receive an honorable mention, thank you for your help. We look forward to the 2015 competition in Osaka, and until then I wish you all much joy in music, and great success in all of your musical activities.
