Dear Roxanne “Roxy” Calabrese, I remember when we lived in Pensacola, Florida; we were married for just three short months. We picked you out of a litter in Flomaton, AL. You stuck out of the bunch being the one with a pointy nose (and later we found you had a not so pretty overbite), but you were still cute, at six weeks, you were the size of a Coke can. We drove you home and heard the song “Roxanne” by The Police playing on the radio and your name was decided right there and then. You loved going to the beach, especially as a puppy, I loved how you frolicked in the sand, you dug massive holes in the sand where the only thing left showing was your little behind sticking up in the air. You ran on that beach like an Olympic sprinter. You were with us through every military move including a 12 hour flight to Japan. Three years later, you jumped in Bella’s car seat the moment we brought her home from the hospital. Over the years you warmed our laps while burrowing under blankets. I have never had a pet as long as I have had you, having been with us all but one month shy of your 17th birthday. Though it was hard to let go of you this morning, I hold onto your memories that have brought our family such laughter and joy. Today we had to let you go, it was your time. I love you little girl and I will miss you, but you will always hold a special place in my heart, my little peanut. Now I will imagine you on the most beautiful stretch of beach running your little heart out with that sweet puppy smile on your face. Rest in Peace Roxy Roo.
