Dear Sir/ Chair EPA I am deeply disappointed to see Israel included in this training experience programme for young European Psychiatrists. Are we as professionals ignoring what the military machine of this country exercising against the Palestinian people in the occupied territories?? Are we not aware that the doctors in Israel and the Israeli Medical Association providing tools and medical assistance to torture the Palestinians in the Israeli jails and most of the doctors in Israel denying and enabling torture in interrogation . May I ask the chair of the EPA, are you not aware of the fact, that there is a campaign for the last 5 of 725 doctors from 21 countries around the world addressed to the world medical association to held the doctors of Israel accountable for their practice as an integral part of the IDF . There are various medical institutions around the world including Physicians for Human Rights in Israel requested officially to boycott all academic activities with universities and hospitals in Israel ? What we see now a days on the television screen of the hostilities and the Israeli missiles killing women and children In Gaza in these days, make us as professionals to be responsible and to request from all Israeli doctors to stand for the ethical standards of our profession. May I ask as a member of the EPA , to suspend Israel as a country from this programme until IMA and the psychiatrists of Israel announcing condemnation of killing innocent Palestinians and to refrain completely of providing help to their military army in the interrogation process . We have witnessed lately a number of detainees on a hunger strike for months, and there was no single critical comments from IMA against their government . I believe our profession should always be humane without any discrimination of any kind , based on this principle we share our experiences and we travel between countries to learn. At this stage , Israel as a placement for psychiatric training should be immediately removed from this programme. With my best regards Dr Amin El-Hihi Consultant Psychiatrist - UK
