Dear Sisters and Brothers – Our cosmic conversation continues: The Orionids – Peak night Oct 21-22. The meteor shower of the Mighty Hunter Orion is underway, with the earth traveling once again through the trail of cosmic dust left by Halleys Comet. From an article by Dr Elizabeth Vreede: Comets represent an element that does not wholly enter the usual sphere of cosmic law, although they still contain a trace of the direct working of spiritual powers, indeed, of the very highest — the Seraphim and Cherubim. Before ordinary law may be broken through, the very highest power and insight is required. The various comets, indeed, are agents of a very special nature in our planetary system, their polar antithesis being in the moons. Just as the moons are a kind of corpse which the planetary system trails along with it, so, on the other side, the comets may be spoken of as constant purifiers of the spiritual atmosphere within the solar system. In earlier times men thought of them as the “scavengers of God,” and many superstitions have gathered around them. To the eye of Spirit, too, the mission of the comets is perpetually to expel impure astral forces from the Cosmos or to introduce new impulses. ~ ~ ~ The festivals study group will be gathering upstairs at the branch for a contemplative viewing of the Solar Eclipse, and ALL are welcome to join us. Thursday afternoon 23 October, 4pm – 6pm During the time of the eclipse we will work as a group with: ~Eurythmy: Hallelujah ~Foundation Stone Meditation ~Rudolf Steiner’s esoteric study of The Lord’s Prayer ~The mantra from the Pre-earthly deeds of Christ ~The myths of Pallas Athene, Argo, Scylla and Charybdis, Innana Please RSVP hazel@shedrums I have a limited supply of solar viewers ($2) let me know if you would like one? This branch event is part of the Central Regional Councils: ‘Speaking with the Stars’ project, which strives to empower us to ripen our speech and heighten our listening, so we can work in a Michaelic way with the Spiritual Beings of the Stars. We will experience a Partial Eclipse of the Sun, on Thursday 23 October, 2014 from 4:37pm until 5:44pm CDT. The Sun, Moon and Venus will all be perfectly aligned at zero plus degrees of Scorpio. All three planets enter this mysterious sign of death and transformation mere hours before the eclipse. The moon is said to be in her ‘fall’ in this sign, and Venus is said to be in her ‘detriment’ in Scorpio. Right next to Venus is Miaplacidus, a star found in the keel of the constellation Argo, the ship. The Keel holds the whole ship together like a spine and is always built first, so this star is sturdy and robust. Miaplacidus used to be the alpha star of the constellation ‘Robur Carolinum’ which means ‘Charles’ Oak’, a tree famous for hiding Charles II after he lost a battle. Oaks are known for being strong and resilient. The fact that Charles took refuge in one, supports Scorpio’s ability in the 1st decan to conceal itself, and then to resurrect what seemed lost. This decan also contains some stars in the ‘crucifix’, so the theme of resurrection is strong here. Adding to the mix is an asteroid called the Pallas Athene, just a few degrees away. Her presence here signifies a knowledge and a wisdom we can awaken to. Two other minor asteroids, Scylla and Charybdis fall on either side of this Solar Eclipse. The idiom “Being between Scylla and Charybdis” is derived from Greek mythology and means to have to choose between two evils. The Solar eclipse literally is caught between a rock and a hard place! Scylla and Charybdis were sea monsters who resided on opposite sides of the notorious strait of Messina found between Sicily and Italy. So, what can these myths add to the equation? New Moon time is the darkest phase of the moon, the 3 days before & the 3 days after have been likened to a journey into the underworld, especially during the dark half of the year. Reminding us that life and regeneration begins in the dark. At the ‘Superior Conjunction’ (Saturday October 25th) Venus disappears behind the Sun - another example of the underworld motif. Venus will reemerge as an evening star on December 4. For now She/We are in the great alchemical process which only an underworld journey can give us. So this solar eclipse calls on us to be sturdy and robust, like the wood in the keel of Argo the ship, all the while keeping love from being concealed by the scorpion. Those who wish to work with this eclipse carry a great deal of responsibility to be conscious. Can we bypass the two “monsters” wailing from either side, keep straight ahead through the rocks, and fix our sights on the horizon - to guide the wheel of the grand schooner and rightly navigate through the sea of life? Look within and above, for the stars will be our guide. Steer wisely!
