Dear Smashers and Gaming friends, I really wanted to share this because I have many friends in the gaming community who dont realize that misogyny in Gaming Culture is rampant and no matter how incredible you play, someone is always going to be judging you based on your appearance if youre female and assume you play solely for male attention. This doesnt just stop at gaming but in all nerd culture. People assume a girl likes Star Trek because they want attention, or dress as a female character at cons because again, its for attention and not because they know anything about the subject. We do this because we love it. Regardless of whether or not were pro at something doesnt discredit our right to enjoy it. Please, if you see a girl in the gaming community, try to keep comments and judgments to yourself because more than likely shes playing because she wants to. Try your best to treat her as an equal and not more or less important than anyone else in the community.
