Dear Student, I am delighted to inform you that, at its meeting today, the IOE Council confirmed that the Institute and UCL will merge. From 2 December 2014 the IOE’s formal title will be UCL Institute of Education and in governance terms it will become a single-faculty school of UCL. This is an historic milestone in the 112-year life of the IOE. Merger will extend and enhance the IOE’s global influence as part of a world-leading multi-faculty university. It will create an institution able to set the agenda for education and the social sciences in the 21st century, both nationally and internationally. The enhanced level of financial security, gained from the merger, will also unlock substantial investment in teaching, research, facilities and an enhanced student experience. This is an exciting time for all of us and, as you will appreciate, there is still a considerable amount of work to be done to implement the merger. I would like to thank all of you for your continued support and understanding during this process. We will continue to give you regular updates on progress as we work to implement the merger and also any information on changes for students as we work together with UCL to enhance services.
