Dear Students, Im sure some of you have wondered whether the future looks as bright for you after ITE, as compared to peers in polytechnics or JCs. There may be concerns on employment, salaries or progression routes after ITE. These are all fair concerns. I have good news for you. Singapore, as a society, is changing. You, as an ITE student and future ITE graduate, have an incredible advantage: Skills. Some of you may be aware that the Government has been working hard on ASPIRE over the past year. Briefly, ASPIRE is an Ministry of Education initiative to realise the potential of every person. ASPIRE values Skills, which is the ticket to a meaningful career and lifelong learning journey. In her Facebook post, Ms Indranee Rajah, Senior Minister of State for Education, has shared on some of the key focuses of ASPIRE. There will be more opportunities to advance and progress. Employers are now valuing industry experience, work attachment stints, internship programmes too. Other qualities matter as well: problem-solving skills, creativity and resilience. These qualities, I know, many of you have aplenty. Your Involvement in ASPIRE 1) Have a read of Faces of ITE (see below link) Join the community on FB and PM your personal success stories of ITE graduates and students. Together, we can redefine success. 2) Take a look at two short video clips produced by a team of students from the three Colleges which elaborate on how working, right after ITE, is a great idea. I hope the information will be useful as you consider your next step: Video 1: Alternative Pathways - Advice from my Senior (youtu.be/j0zK-MtXx-o) Video 2: Alternative Pathways - Prospects for a Brighter Future (youtu.be/IfJGeXX6HwM) 3) Tune in to the National Day Rally this Sunday as Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will address some of the ASPIRE recommendations. Catch it live on youtube/pmosingapore from 6.45pm on Sunday, 17 August. The Rally will also be broadcast live on local TV channels and radio stations. Be inspired by ASPIRE! Have a good weekend, everyone. Eden Liew, Principal/CE
