Dear Tiyani (info DRT, Sanral, Molefe), Councillor vd Merwe and myself are being inundated with calls of angry and desperate residents within the first 3 kilometre section of the Thabazimbi road. Businesses in the area have suffered serious losses and some are on the verge of bankruptcy because, as you know, construction work in the area has now been going on for several months. I drove past there this morning and was astounded to find that the contractor is continuing to mill up the road towards Thabazimbi while nothing is happening and has happened on the first section for some time. As you know, the contract period of the project has nearly expired yet despite our numerous pleas, warnings and requests over an extended period of time about the clearly incompetent contractor who is causing serious financial losses and inconvenience to our members, you have nevertheless allowed him to continue with the work without completing the first section. The same contractor is also involved on the road towards Modimolle where work has also come to a complete standstill. Our members are urging me to take the matter up with higher authority, yet I am giving you an opportunity to respond before taking it up with the Premier, Minister and Presidential hotline. Sanral has evidently taken over the maintenance of the road and are doing a very good job. For the first time in many years, they are doing extensive work on serious edge breaks. I was however surprised to find that they are also doing extensive repairs on edge breaks about a kilometre ahead of the section that you are breaking up and where you will most probably be breaking up their work within a week!
