Dear Undergraduate Students, If you are interested in a paid summer research experience (REU), the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) has several exciting summer programs. We are actively recruiting students for exciting opportunities in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical sciences, and engineering. Please review the brief program descriptions below. We sincerely hope you will consider applying to one or more of our REU programs. Students from underrepresented groups and women are strongly encouraged to apply. All programs are 10 weeks in duration and most provide stipends of $4500.Mentoring, round-trip travel, housing and meal allowances are also provided. Summer program dates vary based on site locations. Early application submissions are encouraged! US citizenship or permanent residency is required for all programs. Application and all supporting materials must be received by February 15, 2014. ********************************************************************** Center for Chemical Evolution (CCE) Research Internship Program (centerforchemicalevolution/opportunities) The CCE summer research program is a designed for undergraduate students studying chemistry, biochemistry, chemical sciences, or chemical engineering. The program allows undergraduate scientists to conduct supervised research with a faculty mentor working in the field of chemical evolution and origins of life chemistry. Students are trained in research methods, data analysis, and written/oral communication of their results Research internship locations: Georgia Tech (Atlanta) and Scripps Institute (San Diego), Furman (South Carolina) and Jackson State (Mississippi). Ga Tech School of Chemistry & Biochemistry ww2.chemistry.gatech.edu/reu/front?destination=front Each research student carries out a research project under the direction of a faculty member in the School of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Georgia Tech. Projects are available in analytical, biological, inorganic, organic, physical, and polymer chemistry. Contributions by undergraduate participants often result in publication of papers in the peer-reviewed literature with the student listed as an author. Research internship location: Georgia Tech (Atlanta). Hooked on Photonics (https://pluto.chem.washington.edu/Photonics/) Description: “Hooked on Photonics (HoP)” is a summer research program for undergraduate students studying chemistry, physics, materials science, engineering, or optics. In contrast to electronics, which deals with the transfer and storage of information using electricity, photonics involves the use of light to control, transmit and manipulate information. Research internship locations: Georgia Tech (Atlanta), University of Washington (Seattle) and University of Arizona (Tucson). Additional GT REU Programs: Students interested in specializations within chemistry and biochemistry may also apply to the following programs: Chemistry Summer Theory Program Aquatic Chemical Ecology Summer Research Program at Georgia Tech Best regards, Dr. Oden -- Keith L.
