Dear Wilma Lee Friends, Great News! Weve given Moores Marine Boatyard the go ahead on the repairs and they started work right away. They have already dismantled significant parts of the Wilma Lee, where the damage occurred and much of the repair is already underway. Ive attached some pictures so you can see what they are working on. Rob visited the boatyard yesterday and reports that they estimate the completion date to be mid to late September, but I think theyre being overly cautious and, based on my little knowledge, Im hopeful for a considerably quicker turn around. Well see. We received the first check from the insurance guys, with more to come, as the work progresses. Its looking like the final bill, including new sails, will be around $60,000 and of that, we have to raise about $20,000. We are planning a fundraising event to take place sometime around the third week of August. It will be here, on the island at a special location, which we arent yet able to publicize because were still working out details. Well keep you posted. The purpose of the fundraiser will be to match (or exceed) a very generous $5,000 grant we have received from the Salisbury Community Foundation. At that point, Im hoping we will be well on our way to raising the full $20,000 that we need to get the Wilma Lee back under sail. Yours In Fair Winds, Tom
