Dear all Great news! Very many thanks to all who attended Nailsworth Town Council meeting last night. For those who couldnt get there, heres the latest! Councillors voted unanimously to let Stroud District Council know they are strongly opposed to the application by Newland Homes to build on Pike Lane meadow. Stroud District Council - which will make a decision on the application in January - will consider Nailsworth Town Councils response as part of the planning process. Well keep you updated on the date of the final decision. (Though do bear in mind that Newland Homes can appeal that decision.) Nailsworth councillors additionally pointed out that: · Newland Homes did not properly consult with the town council, despite claiming that they had; · Newland Homes held one public consultation session, on a weekday, in a way that ticked boxes rather than being a genuine two-way process; · The affordable homes cited in their application are unlikely to remain affordable; nor will they - as Newland claim - necessarily be allocated to people with Nailsworth connections. Deputy mayor, Cllr Jonathan Duckworth, said the affordable homes issue was being used to apply a sheen of acceptability to the planning application. This is excellent news, and our thanks go to Nailsworth town councillors for their fair, balanced and logical approach to this contentious issue. There is still time for people to lodge their objections to Stroud District planners! If you havent already written, youll find advice on how to do so at savenailsworthvalley.co.uk/how-to-object/ Every letter is invaluable in our fight to get this planning application rejected. If you can get your objection in by this Thursday, December 4, that would be ideal. But people can write right up to the beginning of January. Thank you, as always, to all our supporters.
