Dear all, Hope you are doing fine. I am writing this to share a few good news with you. We have just found a space for our proposed organization, Chittagong Arts Complex and have made the Advance to the landlord yesterday. I must admit that this is not the most ideal one, but given the reality and the scheduled time-frame to launch our activities, I had to make a compromise, considering this to be an interim Facility only, before we actually find or build our own dream-complex. The one we have settled for, for the time being of course, is much bigger than the existing place in terms of the floor-space, 2750 sq-ft to be exact. And its location is also very convenient, being in the same Mehedibag area, not very far from Bishaud Bangla. The landlady is very amicable and the whole family itself is into Arts, which is a definite plus for us. We plan on moving in there by the end of October and open the doors to the public sometime in our victory- month December with an assortment of inaugural programs. This Facility will act as the home and office of our proposed organization Bistaar and we can easily hold our smaller events, such as Exhibitions, Talks, Presentations, Film screenings, Lecture-series, Seminars, Workshops etc. in this space. We will now have a larger Cafe, an exhibition hall, a dedicated lounge area for relaxing and spending time together along with a resource center for the members and visitors, a guest room for the resident/visiting artists and a souvenir shop inside. We plan on renting outside venues such as Shilpakala Academy, Theater Institute Chittagong etc. for the larger programmes such as Musical concerts, Plays, Dance, different kinds of Festivals etc. Meanwhile we all should and would try to get a piece of land from the Govt. or the City and design and build a true Arts Complex we have in our vision. I feel very optimistic about being able to do it in the near future with your active support and co-operation. I am also very delighted to inform you that we just got a confirmation from the New-Delhi based Film South Asia Documentary Film Festival about hosting their traveling version consisting of 10 selected films in Chittagong during the opening of the new center, thanks to our acclaimed film-maker Trustee, Yasmine Kabir. Also a Dhaka-based Theater Group named Stage One offered to bring their latest production to Chittagong as a fund-raising event for us around the same time. I am urging you all to think about more events like these and share your ideas and networks with me so that we can chalk out a host of exciting and quality programmes for the first full year.
