Dear all, Ramadan is a special time for everyone. During this month we don’t follow our standard eating & sleeping hours. The changes in our routine put additional stress, causing fatigue which results in an increase in road incidents. Fasting can cause temporary low blood sugar which will drastically affect the attentiveness, concentration, vision and action/ reaction time. These impairments turn into aggressive, reckless, speedy driving which should be avoided by adopting the following. 1. Aggression: Be courteous and patient with other motorists, if someone is exhibiting road rage, no matter how difficult it is, do not pay attention to it and ignore it. 2. Sleepy: If you feel drowsy or sleepy while driving, pull over immediately and take a short nap or wash your face. 3. Plan ahead: Traffic before Iftar becomes very dense and aggressive, keep extra margin of 30 – 60 min for catching flight / train / bus stations etc. 4. Close to IFTAR Time: If you are fasting and not sure to reach your destination at iftar time, carry some the Iftar meal, instead of Risking someone/ your own life. - Try to avoid the roads from around one hour before sunset. At this time, people drive at high speed to make it home in time for breakfast. - Keep extra margin for other’s errors on road (signals, intersections, coming from wrong direction, congestion and encroachments on roads etc.) Have a festive, spiritually rich, progressive & safe Ramadan.
