Dear all, Thank you to everyone who participated in the Doodle - TopicsExpress

Dear all, Thank you to everyone who participated in the Doodle for the Medieval Reading Group. We now have the beginning part of the reading list. Here are a few action items to sort out before our first meeting. This Wednesday is the third Wednesday of the month. It seems I’m not capable of reading a calendar and counting at the same time. Our first medieval reading group meeting of the year will instead take place NEXT Wednesday, 22 October at 3:00. Please check the website edmedred.weebly/meetings.html for the location, TBA. The rest of the meetings will continue on the THIRD Wednesday of the month. The first half of our schedule is sorted. After tallying the votes, there are five texts tied at 3 votes each. I have set up another Doodle poll to sort out which texts will take up the last few meetings. Please choose two options. doodle/yy5a4udgeww7hvgd To begin, we will read The Mary Play from the N-town cycle, plays 8-14. I am going to scan the texts from the EETS edition of the plays and provide a link to the scan on the website. Alternately, you can find text copies of the plays here: umm.maine.edu/faculty/necastro/drama/ntown/index.html. I am also attaching a word document that contains a modernized version of the plays and then a Middle English version. Please note, the Middle English version is occasionally awkwardly formatted, and the notes and translations don’t line up properly. Furthermore, The Mary Play can be found in Medieval Drama: An Anthology, edited by Greg Walker. A good introduction to the N-Town plays can be found here, d.lib.rochester.edu/teams/text/sugano-n-town-plays-introduction The beginning of the reading schedule is as follows: Mary Play - October Margery Kempe - November Richard Morris’s Prick of Conscience - December Ancrene Wisse - January Magnyfycence – February I will send out reminders through the mailing lists, but information will also be updated on the website and Facebook group, https://facebook/groups/edmedread/ That’s enough for now. Thanks very much for your time, and I look forward to seeing you all next Wednesday. All the best, Jessica Legacy
