Dear comrades I am republishing this obituary for an old comrade - TopicsExpress

Dear comrades I am republishing this obituary for an old comrade of mine from my days in Young Labor Left in Victoria who I remember fondly. I was very sad to hear he had died; and it is tragic when good people are taken from us while they are still relatively young. I remember Adrian for the leadership and wisdom he provided for us back in our YLL days; for his engaging personality; his sense of humour. I had not seen Adrian for years, but nonetheless this is very sad news. I remember him as a good person. Vale Adrian Munro Many comrades will be sadden by the recent death of Adrian Munro. In all his endeavours, Adrian was passionate about helping to make our society a better and fairer one. And he was never shy of the struggle to achieve this. This passion drew him to become an active ALP and Socialist Left member for many years. Adrian passionately believed in making Australia a fairer place for all not just those with the good fortune to be born into power and influence. His politics was characterised by an overwhelming belief that all people deserve fairness and justice. As one comrade has said, he always kept faith in the power and possibility of Labor to deliver progressive social and economic outcomes, whatever the setbacks. Adrian started his political journey as a Young Labor activist at Monash University, going on to his active involvement in the National Organisation of Labor Students and President of Young Labor Left. He also did very well as a Labor Candidate for the then Preston City Council. But many of us encountered Adrian as he helped others - in countless campaigns, helping many aspiring politicians help build Labor in parliament and of course, he took part in his many local Branches, his latest being in Macedon. He was always a source of encouragement to his comrades. Adrian was Carlo Carli’s first electorate officer. Carlo remembers Adrian’s dedication and working on his first campaign for the seat of Brunswick. Adrian also worked as an electoral officer for Lindsay Tanner Adrian went on to work as a Senior Adviser for John Pandazopouloslos, covering the complex gaming and tourism portfolios. Adrian was a tireless worker, taking on these difficult and urgent portfolio areas with the passion he always showed for politics and work. And despite the workload, Adrian will always be remembered by his colleagues for his sense of humour and a kind word. Adrian was active in many unions throughout his working life, including the Health and Community Services Union, where he served as a union delegate during his time as a disability care worker. In recent years, he fulfilled an ambition to go to the Victorian Bar. For Adrian this was a fulfilment of a dream. The legal profession gave him further opportunity to work for a more just Australia and he did so with honour, passion and commitment. Adrian in his legal career took on many child and family law cases. Adrian had been suffering from an illness over the last twelve months, and passed away peacefully on Sunday 27th July. Our thoughts are with his partner Kate, his children and family at this time.
