Dear families and friends of the family center: This past - TopicsExpress

Dear families and friends of the family center: This past weekend, we had a heartbreaking incident at the family center. Someone or some persons changed the lettering on our sandwich board to a racial epithet. One of the firefighters (John McVeigh, a firefighter and Selectboard member) noticed it on Sunday and immediately locked it in the fire station, so our hope is that it wasn’t visible for a long time, as Gail and I were here on Friday and Saturday. Chief Garriepy came on Monday morning to initiate an investigation, and we hope to have the matter resolved as soon as possible. This incident comes as a shocking reminder that racism and hate continue to abide in this world and our small community. We cannot, in good faith, tell you that this incident is unique in the hilltowns. Our hope is that we can work together to eradicate this kind of behavior. We were fortunate to have Charles Neville share his experiences with us in May and to spark conversation. My hope is that all of you will take this opportunity to engage in those all- important discussions within your own families and in the community. If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me. Best, Kim
