Dear fellow Young Israel members, As we all watch with worry the developments in Israel and Gaza, we cant help but feel that we must do something, however small, to help Israels efforts. We would like to launch a fundraiser for the IDF. We will be selling homemade Shabbat food throughout the neighborhood and all proceeds will be given to Friends of the IDF. This organization is currently sending 100% of donations directly to Israel to benefit the soldiers. Below is a list of the efforts being made with these funds. Even if you do not wish to participate in the Shabbat food fundraiser, we encourage you to consider donating directly to this organization if you feel so inclined. We are asking for volunteers to cook dishes that they would like to sell. Please let us know what delicacy/delicacies you would like to offer and how many you would in theory be willing to make. You can input your information on the form located at the web address at the bottom of this email. Please respond by Saturday night 7/26. We will compile the list and send it out on Sunday 7/27, and we will notify the cooks next week regarding their orders. All the contributions coming in to this fund are restricted and 100% of them go to the needs identified by the IDF. FIDF is the only US organization who works directly with the IDF, and here is what we know the soldiers NOW- Snack Packages at $18 each, or 10 Snack Packages at $180. The snack packages include simple treats that energize and comfort the soldiers while they face heightened difficulties. These include nutritional choices such as peanuts and crackers, as well as Israeli favorites like Bamba and wafers. As we have been told by hundreds of soldiers over the years, these simple basic needs make a HUGE difference. Toiletry Kits at $36 each, or 10 Toiletry Kits at $360. The toiletry kits include items that will allow the soldiers to maintain basic hygiene while in the field. These include deodorant, razors and shaving cream, mouthwash, towelettes, which are used for field showers, and similar basics that will provide great physical relief. Undergarment kits at $50 each, or 10 Undergarment kits for $500 The undergarment kits include clothing items that the soldiers need to change often, but cannot because of their limited resources in the field. These include fresh socks, undershirts, and underwear, all of which will help the soldiers feel clean and refreshed, especially in the heat of the Israeli summer. FIDF is committed to the soldiers and their wellbeing 365 days a year 24/7, and when this operation is over (and god willing it will be over sooner rather than later!) all remaining funds will continue serving their wellbeing by sending these deserving soldiers to rest and recreation weeks, supporting wounded soldiers and families of fallen soldiers.
