Dear friends, Come see my band The Forty-Gallon Baptists perform like you havent seen us before as the house band for Centrifuge, the cool-as-a-cucumber pre-show for Over the Rhines concert at this years Slant Culture Theatre Festival opening party. At our last Centrifuge rehearsal, I do believe I saw some terrific theatre shorts and some badass slam poetry, for which I cannot wait; maybe they’ll allow us to lay down some beats. And as the house band, we’re gonna fall somewhere between the trippyness of Pink Floyd and the emotional discord of Wilco, with one beautiful Springsteen song thrown in the mix. It gave me chills. Now, Over the Rhine: If you havent seen Over the Rhine, do yourself a favor and see them. They are one of the most important duos of our generation. I’ve personally toured with them and have seen them sell out rooms 20 times larger. This will be the most exquisite, intimate show you’ll see in a long time; the venue only seats 130 people and is expect to sell out within days. OtR, as we call them, have shared the stage with Bob Dylan, John Prine, Adrian Belew, Squeeze, Ani DiFranco, My Morning Jacket, Hem, The Milk Carton Kids, and toured as adjunct members of Cowboy Junkies. In addition to producing their own music, they have worked with famed Grammy award winning producers like Joe Henry and Paul Mahern whose clients include Ray Lamontagne, Billy Bragg, Aimee Mann, John Doe, John Mellencamp, The Frey, Bonnie Raitt, Elvis Costello, Chocolate Carolina Drops, Madonna—yes, Madonna—and maybe Joe Hendry will work with me someday. The husband and wife duo OtR are true artists in every sense of the word. Come see for yourself. Bring some tissue. Youll laugh, youll cry, youll be awakened.
