Dear friends, I usually start my post out with asking: What did was your offertory anthem (or music of the day) At my church, I have the awesome task of not only singing the rich music of the Anglican worship tradition but also have a cultural responsibility to speak to the racial diversity in our Anglican community. Today at Trinity Church (Washington, D. C.) we experienced a special 5th Sunday Lenten Jazz and Gospel Eucharist with guest musicians joined by The Trinity Chancel Choir. We did two uniquely different things. The Decalogue was arranged in such a way, that our rector read the commandment underneath a soulful, mournful Lord, Have Mercy then the commandment answered Amen! Lord Have Mercy. The music was inspired by the spiritual Wade in the Water and this also comprised the Kyrie. The regular hymns were given a gentle jazz treatment, but the service music at communion was on the full organ to add the traditional regal grandeur to our service, which we aim to have always present. I know that everyone is not a fan of these out of the box experiences, but I know in my heart that God was truly glorified even in the SILENCE of A------------------iahttps://facebook/media/set/?set=a.761690810517489.1073741838.199306770089232&type=1
