Dear friends, I would like to get something off my chest. I thought now would be an appropriate time to come out to you as... A student politician O.o (well, not quite yet) Im probably more confused than anyone else as to how this happened. But I am running to represent the Conservatorium and because studying at this institution can be shit at the best of times, but when shit hits the fan, you can find yourself up shit creek without a paddle (sorry for all the faecal imagery, just trying to make a point). Student support services at main campus are quite inadequate to say the least, but at the Con they are pretty much nonexistent. Ive seen way too many students fail many subjects that they shouldnt have, had they adequate support. And Ive seen too many friends drop out. It is very frustrating. If the Con wants to pride itself on being a world class institution they should start by looking after their students with sufficient and accessible academic, legal, mental health, disability and other support services. And as these sorts of things seem to be written off as the responsibility of the centralised bureaucratic monster that is the University of Sydney, decisions are made on main campus with no consideration for the needs of Con students (and students of other satellite campuses for that matter) so at the very least we need a student voice to represent these needs. Over the past few weeks Ive been getting to know other students running different tickets on our team, SWITCH for Kyol. Ive realised that everyone is genuinely passionate about the student issues they are running for and committed to making the whole university a better place to study. If it werent for this, I wouldnt be running. Ive also been getting to know Kyol, our presidential candidate. Hes a pretty cool guy, and hes passionate about not only drastically improving the University, but also about making this planet a better place to live on. Seriously. And I can assure you hes not simply in it to build his CV and land a career in the Labor party or the NUS, unlike the SRC presidents of the last two decades. So please support us and vote. Even if you arent a Sydney uni student you can still Like our page. Et même si tes à lautre bout du monde, tu peux nous aider en aimant notre page, hehe ;) https://facebook/SwitchForKyol?fref=ts
