Dear friends, Thanks to you all for your warm (and very welcome) - TopicsExpress

Dear friends, Thanks to you all for your warm (and very welcome) birthday wishes… aside from short replies to you all I thought I’d write one reply with some more detail that you can all read updating you on what I’ve been up to in the land of smiles. I play a lot of pool, the end. Hahaha just jokes. Day to day life is pretty good, I have a small 1 bedroom apartment that I rent in a very central location… it’s got a great pool area and enough space for a hammock on the back balcony so it’s all pretty nice. My work at Ford is going well after changing roles fairly frequently over the last… say… 10 years lol, I’ve settled into a management position with Ford looking after early model sourcing and it’s going well. The last year has seen me take a few short trips rather than my usual travel adventures of disappearing for weeks on end but I’ve managed to explore some amazing islands and some of the beautiful surrounding country’s in SE Asia. Really the remote village life in this part of the world is a road map for all of humanity in so many ways. You should explore it if u haven’t already. Now… back to pool… hahaha day to day life is pretty good, I commute on my motorbike each day about 11km to my office through thick Bangkok traffic (which I actually love) it’s always interesting to see the same street scapes but constantly changing elements – the pace of change here is so fast that it always feels new in some way. In the evenings I hang out with some select close friends, we shoot pool at the local bars (which are actually very competitive with a winner stays on policy and anywhere up to 40 names on the challenge board waiting for a game at my preferred spot) My record stands at 26 consecutive wins (when u lose u pay for the game – 20thb or about 80 cents haha) but I frequently stay on the table for 10 or more games. The area where the pool bars are surrounded by all walks of life, tourists, business travel, lady boys, bar girls and local expats all mixing and listening to some great live music as the night winds away – every night bring along some very interesting and funny (sometimes shocking) scenery. On nights where I’d rather not go out I stay at home and watch a dvd or go to a local restaurant… food is so cheap that I honestly can’t remember the last time I cooked… it just doesn’t really make economic sense and I couldn’t hope to cook as well as half the street restaurants who will happily sell a meal for 40-100thb ($1-$4) and it’s fun to practice my Thai which they all tell me is really good just before they open a conversation and completely lose me lol. The year ahead will be a fun one, I recently brought all of my personal household stuff over from Australia and am feeling more settled, which usually for me means I have more energy and interest to explore… and when I look at the map I see a huge land mass to my north and west that’s begging me to take a peak. For my birthday present I spoiled myself with a go-pro camera so I can now also document some of my adventures and share then with u all which will be fun too. So… plan a visit! You’re always welcome! And I’d love to show you some of the local sights. And thanks again for all the birthday wishes! Luv ya! Steve
