Dear friends, in a few minutes I will be leaving once again for - TopicsExpress

Dear friends, in a few minutes I will be leaving once again for the town of Gettysburg. I will spend this weekend with the 87th Pennsylvania. However, this morning I leave wearing the uniform as the 1st Sergeant of the 8th Virginia. We will be gathering at the Virginia Monument on Seminary ridge this afternoon. At 3:00 P.M. we will step off from the woods just as the boys from the 8th Virginia did 150 years ago today. It was remarked by the Union troops who watched this charge how those boys in gray marched as if they were on Parade. No talking, perfect formation, flags flying in the breeze. A lot of those young men had seen and heard what had happened 7 months before to the Federal troops who had assaulted the stone wall at Fredericksburg, Virginia. With that in mind, they did it anyway. Say what you will about this war, the causes, the outcome; but we must honor those brave men who sacrificed so much for something they deeply believed in. Many a brave boy lost their lives on those bloody fields of Pennsylvania. Call me sentimental and old fashioned but I am feeling deeply emotional about carrying the flag of the Commonwealth across that field today. So today, please give a moment of silence in memory of those brave Virginians who sacrificed so much for their comrades. DEO VINDICE - God will vindicate!
