Dear furiends, A few weeks back, I shared Astros Christmas - TopicsExpress

Dear furiends, A few weeks back, I shared Astros Christmas miracle with you. He waited a long long time for his forever home, but once he found it, it was just perfect. Theres part of the story that I didnt share, but is relevant to tonights story. Many times over, I have highlighted the good work Rescue Shelter Transports does. They take animals from shelters where they have zero chance of being adopted and work with rescues to transport the animals where they have an increased chance of being adopted. I have also highlighted that they are constantly working to pull cats from Rutherford County Animal Shelter. The conditions for the cats there are horrific. They dont have enough space for the animals they take in, so frequently, kittens, no matter the age, are put in dog runs with many many other kittens. Disease and sickness, spread quickly in close confines. RST often races the clock to pull animals, not sure if the animals will be put down due to illness. Early last summer, RST was given the green light to pull 10 kitten from the shelter. They had a guaranteed foster lined up. Astro was one of those 10 kittens. Another kitten was a gorgeous dilute calico who was given the name Liza. The shelter had posted a picture of her, desperately climbing her run. She wanted so badly to be noticed, that she climbed and screamed each time a hooman walked by. The foster noticed and said I want that kitten. The volunteers were efficient, pulling the kittens the foster had requested, and a couple more, all the while feeling an intense pressure. They couldnt articulate why the intensity, why the rush, they just felt they had to act fast. This would prove to be wise, furiends, as over 100 cats and kittens were euthanized the very next day due to an outbreak of panleukepenia. This would provide its own stress as the fosters now had to be vigilant in watching for the dreaded panleukepenia virus. Liza, Astro and all their other brothers and sisters by fate escaped the dreaded panleuk, but they were not altogether unscathed. The living conditions took their toll on the young kittens. Liza, in particular, would go on to battle eye infections and upper respiratory infections. She, like Astro, waited a long time for her forever home. One day, a family with a boy came to meet kitties at an adoption event. They were first time cat owners, but for the boy, and Liza, it was love at first sight. Before she knew it, Liza was swept up and taken to her forever home. She was able to spend her very first Christmas in her forever home. This is what her family had to say in a recent letter to HART: Liza (who Aj has since named Sweetheart or Sweetie) and Aj have bonded wonderfully. From the first night with us she has slept with my son, right next to him, on his bed every night. She follows him around everywhere. We joke that she is more like a dog than a cat! She is also fearless. Sweetheart is such a friendly and loving cat. Thank you again for giving us a chance! Aj is especially grateful. He has taken on the responsibility of feeding, watering and cleaning up after Sweetie. We have all adjusted great to our new family member. Liza went from a scared, desperate kitten to a beloved family member and she couldnt have done it without the help of some really great hoomans. From all the financial help my furiends gave, to the volunteers who pulled her to the volunteers who transported her, to the hoomans at Homeless Animals Rescue Team who worked so hard to find her a loving home, to her loving hoomans - these loving acts of kindness made a significant difference in the life of a kitten and her little boy. A cat like me cant really ask for more than that. And it seems, in looking at the pictures, Liza, now Sweetie, cant ask for more either. Yours in boundless gratitude, Lucky >^.,.^
