Dear general public, If you have ever said this upon meeting a dancer, please consider the following. Hey, youre a dancer!? You want to show me some cool dance moves? No. I do not, and here is why: A.) There is no music. Incredibly awkward dancing to the sound of the wind and my heavy breathing. (That I am desperately trying to induce, but is horrifically enhanced by silence.) B.) We are artist who entertain, but that does not mean we, at all times, WANT to entertain. If you desire to see those cool dance moves so badly, come take a class. Watch a video by subscribing to my channel. Best yet, come to a show that is put on by myself or my peers and actually support the art-form. C.) It is rude. Dancers dont walk up to people and say, Oh, you are a doctor? Show me some cool operating techniques! OR You are a therapist? Do a quick evaluation on me. Just because we are visual artist does not mean we do not deserve the same respect as a professional and just like any professional, when we are not teaching, performing or training; we are off the clock. We do it because we love it. And I trulyyyy understand the desire to be amazed within a 15 second window, but we are not circus puppets. So next time, if I say no, understand I am not trying to be rude, I am simply encouraging you to fully support what we do as a whole and raising the standard. Yours truly, Jarell Rochelle and every dancer in the world :)
