Dear international friends, many of you keep asking How are things in Ukraine?. Here is a brief summary from todays parliamentary hearings on the situation: The head of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksander Turchynov reported to the Ukrainian Parliament today, Jan 15th 2015: “Russia can start a full-scale war against Ukraine. There are two scenarious of how the situation can develop. The first one, that Russia will resume active military campaign, a full-scale war with the deployment of its regular army units. This could lead to the full-scale continental war. Another scenario consists in Russia’s endeavors to launch a wide range of terrorist attacks on the Ukrainian soil and to transform this into a long-lasting military conflict. Russian aggression is continuing. Over last 24 hours we witness unprecedented activity of insurgents in the East and shelling Ukrainian positions with heavy artillery (129 cases). 2 Ukrainian soldiers were killed and 4 wounded. The terrorist units demonstrate complete disregard for ceas-fire agreement. They are killing not only soldiers, but also ordinary citizens (of which the recent tragedy at Volnovakha is an example, with 12 people killed and 17 wounded in a rocket strike that hit a public bus). To give you an idea about the scale of the Russian invasion and terrorist activities: the rebel troops in the East of Ukraine are estimated about 36 000, of which 8000 are regular Russian army personnel. They posses 542 tanks, 990 armed military vehicles, about 700 artillery and rocket systems. Besides this, on the boarder of Eastern Ukraine we detect a great number of Russian troops in full combat readiness: 52 000 soldiers, over 300 tanks, about 2000 heavy armed vehicles and 360 military jets and helicopters”. Will be greatful for sharing this, your prayers, and any possible support of Ukraine and its army!
