Dear interwebs, Ive always been a nerd girl. Pretty much from the time I started reading. However, my true inner nerd was released when I was a junior in high school, bored over summer break, and I picked up a copy of Enders Game. My mind was so blown that I went on to read all the sequels in existence within the next few days. I can talk about Greg Bear, William Gibson, Tad Williams, Tolkien, Orson Scott Card. At length. I watched all BSG reimagined and the commentaries. I have read Heinlein, Asimov and Heinlein. I could speak for decades about the amazingly insightful psychology that Lovecraft employed to make him the best horror writer, imo, ever. I am in love with Doctor Who. I could continue on establishing my nerd woman cred. But what bothers me, is that I should even have to. All a man has to do is cite his favorite Doctor Who (and I even know that you would never write that Dr.) episode quote and maybe one literature reference and hes in. But since women have been more free to express their inner geek, all of us are now regarded as posers unless we prove ourselves. Are there some? Probably. But that is true of any group. And there are probably just as many men. Cant we just throw the gender thing out of it, and welcome every Geek we come across as part of the club until and unless they prove otherwise? *steps off of soapbox* From, me.
