Dear members of L.U.C.I.A, peers, faculty, friends... This semester has been quite hectic for all us at CSUN. For myself, this semester has been a crucial moment of my life where I have to plan what is next after college in regards to graduate school, therefore I spent a lot of time doing graduate school applications and making sure I did good on my classes. For other members of the mesa directiva, this semester represented their last semester as an undergraduate, thus achieving high grades became an essential factor in their daily lives in order to secure graduation this fall. For this, I wish to apologize if L.U.C.I.A was not more active or more involved in all the events that occurred at CSUN this semester. I write these words for I feel I have the duty and responsibility of informing all of you the reasons by which the club appeared to be somewhat inactive. Since our meeting with our academic adviser we agreed that this semester was going to be a semester of planning and gathering forces, recruiting students and securing funding to carry on events this coming Spring 2015. Our treasurer, vice president, secretary and myself have worked hard behind the scenes of official meetings by attending club recognition conferences, filing an ample number of paperwork to maintain the existence and validity of our club and also attending meetings and appealing for funding for our club through Associated Students. It may not seem that we were active this semester but even though we didnt have meetings at 100% full capacity of attendance by students, we still are committed to not only maintain the existence and validity of our club but to transform it into an organization that will make a positive impact in the student community at CSUN and the San Fernando Valley and greater Los Angeles community for generations to come. So, what is coming next semester? First of all we have a budget hearing where we will express the utmost important reasons by which we need funding this coming Wednesday January 14th. This club, in essence is designed to bring awareness of the cultural and social manifestations of Spanish throughout the world. If we require funding is only to carry on events that will benefit the community and student body, as that is one of the main objectives of the club. So for next semester expect at least 1 musical-cultural event following the success of our first annual noche poetica which was dedicated to the legend of Latin American poetry, Pablo Neruda. Also we will have some workshops for students who wish to better their Spanish, another probable musical event, such as a fandango jarocho, and a film night. Also, I want to acknowledge a special member of the mesa directiva who is graduating this semester. Our treasurer, Mariela Marquez, has worked very hard with the club even before she became our treasurer last semester in Spring 2014. She helped me, our former president Noemí T. Terrazas and our former vice president Jose Antonio Gil and continuing member, former secretary now vice president, Sandra Marin, to successfully plan and realize our first noche poetica. I want to congratulate Mariela for her graduation and I want to thank her for all the hard work she has put this semester by attending meetings, contacting Associated Students for funding and planning our budget hearing meeting with the A.S Senators, but more importantly for being a great friend and helping me out with the hectic activities associated with the club. Gracias por todo tu apoyo y por tu ayuda Mariela! I also want to congratulate and welcome our new treasurer Mildred García, who will be taking the place of Mariela as she graduates this fall. Mildred will make a great addition to our club and to the mesa directiva. Please spread the word about our club!! This coming semester we will have more detailed information concerning meetings and activities. More attention will be put on sending a weekly newsletter of events and everything that was discussed in our meetings, for those who cannot attend. This club will remain in existence for a long time and I want to see this club become a permanent and important factor of the university. I also want to stress that since every single member of the mesa directiva is graduating in Spring 2015, including myself, we would like to start looking for those who will follow in our footsteps. If you are interested you can contact me personally or sending a message to this, the clubs facebook. As I have finished my first B.A this semester, my bachelors in History, it is time not only to finish my second B.A which is Spanish but also to dedicate as much time as I have to the club and to the Spanish department, where not only I have found lifelong friends but also mentors and faculty that have advised concerning school and life me in ways I will always remember. It is for this that all the members of club L.U.C.IA, myself, Mariela our treasurer, Sandra our vice president and Jacqueline our secretary, wish you a very happy holiday season and wish that all your objectives, dreams and life goals become a reality this coming year. I will see a lot of you in graduation ceremony and I will have the pleasure to spend that special moment with you my good friends. Thank you for your support of the club, of the student body and of the Spanish Department at CSUN. My best wishes to you and your loved ones this Holiday season. Sincerely, Alan Alexander Malfavon, President of L.U.C.I.A
