Dear peter, Thanks to the generosity of National Right to Work - TopicsExpress

Dear peter, Thanks to the generosity of National Right to Work supporters like you, we won another huge victory this week as Foundation staff attorneys played a critical role in successfully defending Indianas popular Right to Work law before the Indiana Supreme Court. Job growth in Indiana has boomed in the more than two years since the Hoosier State adopted its Right to Work law, and Indiana workers just got even more great news. On Thursday, the Indiana Supreme Court unanimously upheld the law from a spurious union legal assault. Union bosses were so desperate to undo the pro-worker reform, they even argued that Right to Work -- which simply allows workers to choose for themselves whether they want to join or financially support a union -- is a form of slavery. Up is down, left is right, freedom is slavery. With your help, the National Right to Work Foundation wouldnt let them get away with this groundless and offensive attack. As soon as the law was passed, your Foundation launched a new legal task force dedicated to defeating the bogus arguments cooked up by Big Labor lawyers in Indiana. The task force was fully prepared to fight back against union lines of attack and determined that Indianas Right to Work law is on sound legal ground. As you know, Foundation attorneys have successfully and repeatedly defended state Right to Work laws in the past from similar challenges. Not only that, in the Foundation-won Davenport v. Washington Education Association (2007) decision, the United States Supreme Court reiterated that, as the Court had originally decided in 1949, Right to Work laws are constitutional. Union bosses know that for decades the courts have upheld Right to Work laws while acknowledging the fundamental conflict between compulsory unionism and freedom of association. The president of the Indiana AFL-CIO even just admitted that Big Labor expected to lose. But they went on with their desperate legal assault anyway. You see, Big Labors high command hopes that by dragging out the battle in states like Indiana, they will also suppress the growing Right to Work movements in other states like Kentucky, Montana, Missouri, New Hampshire, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. Thats why it was so vital to aggressively defend Indianas Right to Work law every step of the way, including brave workers filing friend of the court briefs in defense of the law with free legal aid from Foundation staff attorneys. Make no mistake, if union bosses had successfully gutted or repealed Indianas law, then it would only have been a matter of time before they took aim at every Right to Work law across the country. Defending state Right to Work laws is a crucial component of the Foundations strategic litigation program made possible by the generosity of Right to Work supporters like you. Thank you again for your critical support. Sincerely, Mark Mix P.S. The Foundation relies completely on voluntary contributions from our supporters to provide free legal aid.
