Dear students, I am forwarding the contents of mail as follow I have tried to answer the queries received by me before the ModSim workshop: Queries for the paper “System Modeling and Simulation” (Sem IV). 1. What is the tentative weight-age for the numerical problems and theory questions in examination? Format of question paper? Answer: 50:50 2. The syllabus does not mention the simulation software(GPSS) and its structure topic. As it is one of the important topic, hence is it required to cover it in the class? Answer: Not compulsory though you feel it is important. It will be a value addiiton but certainly syllabus does mention about it. The same thing can be achieved using excel. 3. Also in the last unit (UNIT VI), the real world problems are to be explained theoretically or using the GPSS model and program? Answer: Theoretically by way of presentations, again using GPSS is not mandatory. 4. Is it necessary to cover various Queuing Models with details? As it is not clearly mentioned in the syllabus. Answer: Queueing models of the type A/B/c/N/K to be covered where A&B = M, D, E, c=single or multiple two and N,K = finite or infinite. 5. Basic problems on statistical distributions (e.g. binomial, geometric, weibull etc.) are not part of syllabus. Thus whether they are asked in the theory exam or not? (Using these distributions, the random variate generation problem can be solved.) Answer: The problems will be asked with reference to the Jerry Banks chapter based on statistical models for simulation. Within Discrete Distributions: Bernulis , Binomial, Geometric, Poisson Continuous Distributions: Uniform, Exponential, Gamma, Erlang, Normal and Weibull to be covered. ****************************************** 1) What will be the university paper pattern (theory, numerical). 50:50 2) what will be the watage of each unit in university question paper. Answered above 3) What is the percentage of numericals and theory questions in question paper. 50:50 4) Are algorithms, theorems expected in university question paper. Yes if the topic demnds 5 ) Are case studies expected in the university question paper. Yes especially for the I, VI units. 6) may i have a model question paper following university pattern.: No not possible 7)There are some topics for example (Test of Random Numbers) in which the books referred in MCA syllabus (jerry banks) covers only 3 types of test, whereas the some engineering books covers 7 types of test. so which book we should refer. W We will not follow Engineering Books, we will stick to the Jerry Banks which ever edition you are following, if some particular topic is missing in the particular edition refer to other edition for that topic.
