I cannot tell you how much we appreciate, and still desperately need PRAYER. God has been so good to Carter and us all. The last month has been filled with accomplishments and new abilities. He now receives 8+ hours of physical, occupational, visual, and speech therapy every single day from Elaina, Paul (Grandpa) and Sharon (Granny). Not to mention Claire, Cooper, Court, and me when Im not working. Carter continues to heal and build his strength. The standing machine shown here, has helped tremendously to build back his muscles in his legs, back, neck and torso. He first started out in the stander for 15 min intervals, three times a day and quickly build up to 60 min intervals 3 to 4 times a day. Praise God! Paul (Grandpa) built a raised physical therapy table (4x4) exactly to Carters measurements so that he can sit with his feel flat on the ground and build his balance. He spends most of the day outside receiving his PT, weather permitting. We use a full size hammock, as well as a hammock chair swing to work on his balance and equilibrium (also outside). He also soaks in the Hot tub a few times a week for some much needed water muscle therapy. Just last week we ordered and received a suspension rig shown here. It is much more open and less constrictive than the stander and allows him to plant his feet directly on the ground. This is truly amazing. Carter has taken to it very well as it allows him to control the weight on his feet and redistribute his weight when one position gets uncomfortable for him. Carter has transitioned from the stander to the suspension rig which he is now in for 60-90 minutes 3-4 times a day. While he is standing in this he receives other forms of physical, occupational, visual, and speech therapy. As you can see from the picture it has wheels that will soon allow him to walk. Praise God for giving Carter the strength to increase his abilities and the determination to not give up. This upright position is so very important to getting his body and mind back to tip top shape. Carter continues to eat a naturally organic and whole body and mind strengthening diet through his g-tube; however he has also started to eat things by mouth. At first he could only taste different things and it was overwhelming at times to process the new taste and feel. I am happy to tell you that he now eats many different things including, but not limited to Cool Whip, pudding, and Jell-O. He swallows these foods immediately and seems to really like them (what 11 year old wouldnt, right?). Thank you God for continuing to work in Carters life. We pray that he is able to consume all his food orally very soon so his g-tube can removed once and for all. Carter continues to follow commands that we ask him to complete including his most recent to stand up straight. As I have told you before Carter understands EVERYTHING that we say to him or around him. He responds immediately with smiles, grins, laughter, frowns, smirks, and sometimes crying directly from what he just heard and understood. Carter desperately wants to come back to his life and live as he always has with vigor and passion. It’s clear that he is giving this everything he has every single day and we thank God for giving him that strength. One great example of Carter following us is this. Just the other day Cooper was working on his Math homework and he told us that 7+3 was 9. Carter immediately busted out laughing at his younger brothers error before any of us could say a word. Carter has also started to respond and follow commands written on a pad of paper. THANK YOU GOD for your miraculous work in Carters brain. I could go on and on about all the amazing things God has done in Carters life. At the end of the day we ask for the only thing that we have ever needed. PRAYER. Prayer for SPEECH. Prayer for increased movement and range of motion. Prayer for continued strength for both Carter and our Family that works with him every day. The floodgates will rush open once communicative speech returns to Carter. Finally prayer that God will continue to restore Carter to his full and complete faculties for GOD’s GLORY.
