Dearest Friends, On my birthday today I witnessed the most - TopicsExpress

Dearest Friends, On my birthday today I witnessed the most extraordinary thing. When I came home from classes I noticed a glorious Monarch butterfly sitting on my front porch. I looked and waited for it to fly away, but it didn’t move. I called to my daughter to come and look and the little creature fluttered a little bit. I asked my daughter to go get a sheet of paper so we could lift the butterfly up. If she was dying we wanted to situate her in a better location. My daughter asked if she could photograph her and I told her that was a great idea. We brought the butterfly into the house and my daughter took some wonderful images of it. We set her down on a little memorial alter we keep in honor of our loved ones that are no longer with us. The butterfly opened its wings and then closed them again. I told my daughter that I was going to try to find a place on the butterfly bush outside where I could lay her peacefully instead of her passing inside of our house. When I got outside, the butterfly opened its wings again and paused a moment. Then, it fluttered its wings and lifted itself off of the paper I was carrying her on. It circled my head three times and then flew up into the tree. I was astonished. It was so beautiful. I had read once that butterflies represent loved ones who have passed away and the presence of butterflies is a sign that your loved ones are still around you. What is more significant to me is that this little butterfly’s appearance on my birthday today reiterated the circle of life. In some cultures, they sing to you “Happy Death Day” to you on your birthday—meaning the death of the old year and to welcome the new year of your life—just as a butterfly metamorphoses from a caterpillar. What struck me even more is that the little creature that had seemed to be dying flew up and circled my head three times before flying away. A blessing and a reminder that my circle of life has completed another cycle today and now I have the privilege of beginning anew. Most importantly, I want to take time to thank each and every one of you for the birthday wishes today. I am so grateful to have all of you in my life. I rejoice in your happiness and my heart aches with your sorrows. With the passing of each and every day and the turning of this wheel I wish you all blessings and rebirth. From the bottom of my heart, thank you all for remembering me today. All my love, stephanie
