Death of 26 persons in road accident 3 yrs imprisonment awarded to driver Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Dec 9: In a major accident leading to death of 26 persons, Sub Judge Katra Manoj Parihar today convicted erring bus driver namely Kartar Nath, son of Shiv Ram of Reasi and awarded three years imprisonment and fine of Rs 2000. Twenty six persons lost their lives on June 25, 2009 when a bus being driven rashly by the accused driver met with accident. Accordingly, case under Sections 279, 337, 338 and 304-A RPC was registered in Police Station Katra and after completion of investigation charge sheet was presented in the court of Sub Judge Katra. Sub Judge Katra Manoj Parihar, after hearing the counsel for accused and Prosecuting Officer Kishore Kumar, observed, prosecution has proved the case beyond reasonable doubt as the accused failed to observe the due care and attention and drove bus rashly and negligently. Accordingly, accused was convicted and sentenced to undergo simple imprisonment of three years.
