Dec. 8, 1941 declaration of war. Dec 24, 1941 family arrived in Yuma. Any of you remember rationing? Chickens, sugar, meats, fats, cheese, gasoline, oil, tires, cars, stoves, typewriters, nylon, (nylon was needed for parachutes) etc. Uncle Sam also assumed the role of fashion designers..hems and belts restricted to 2, Cuffs on sleeves eliminated. Wrigleys continued producing Juicy Fruit, Spearmint and Doublemint gum..but the entire production was shipped to the troops overseas. Fortunately we had a cow, raised chickens, grew victory gardens and had only one vehicle. Did any of you go outside during a black out as the sky was filled with planes headed for the Pacific and use a flash light to tap out dit dit dit dah (Morse code for V (for victory.)
