December 17, 2014 The World Rabobank—Shrimp Prices Should Remain Relative High in 2015 In its latest report “A New Dawn for the Prawn,” Rabobank, a multinational banking and financial services company headquartered in Utrecht, The Netherlands, says shrimp prices should remain relative high over the medium term. The bank notes that global demand for shrimp is growing and thinks that Ecuador, India and Indonesia will not be able to meet the increasing demand. Rabobank said: “If we assume that a gradual recovery of EMS in China and Thailand could potentially take a few years, a continuation of the high and volatile price environment can be expected to persist at least in the medium term.” “It is very hard to formulate price expectation for this market, where the effects of EMS and the subsequent recovery remain unpredictable...the regions currently expanding, like India and Indonesia, still remain vulnerable.” Yet, Rabobank says that in 2015—if the expected gradual recovery of EMS continues—then supply will grow steadily, in which case prices would decline gradually.
