December 18 Song: Stand Still Artist: The Palmer Sisters Music Link: youtube/watch?v=s0LqEDT47rE When the great prophet Samuel gave his farewell speech, he reminded the nation of Israel of all the great things that God had promised and fulfilled. God had answered Joseph’s cry and had lead the people’s forefathers out of Egypt by using Moses. God had settled the nation of Israel in the promise land and proved himself faithful to his word. But the people had forgotten the Lord and their sin had brought defeat at the hands of Sisera, the Philistines and the Moabites. Afterwards the people repented and the Lord had brought security to the people. Samuel goes on to outline the blessings that are assured the people if they will only fear the Lord, serve and obey him. Samuel was clearly giving a warning to the nation, but see how he worded the warning. Then Samuel said, if you rebel against Gods command then the Lords hand would be against you. It was interesting that Samuel did not say if the nation rebelled that the Lords hand would be against the nation, he worded it so that it applied to each individual. Then Samuel called upon the Lord to send thunder and rain and He told the people be still and see this great thing the Lord is about to do. I believe that God can heal and wants to heal our land. Can God be withholding the great thing he could do in our country and our lives until as individuals we repented of sin and disobedience to God? As individuals we should call upon the Lord, repent and stand still! Verse of the Day: Exodus 14:14 NIV The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.
