December 23, 1704 Bhai Daya Singh questions Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Maharaj. youtu.be/QUV5pHOKEXU In the middle of the night Guru Gobind Singh Ji and three remaining Sikhs - Bhai Daya Singh, Bhai Dharam Singh and Bhai Man Singh - left the Chamkaur haveli, with a plan to go in different directions but meet in a garden outside Machiwara, Guru Ji removed his shoes before he left to respect the Shaheeds. Even at this critical moment Guru Ji was fearless and full of valor, clapping loudly three times and shouting “here goes the Guru of the Sikhs. Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, travelled barefoot over rough and thorny terrain, for nearly 10 miles through the remaining hours of night. In barely two hours time, his feet torn and bleeding, and his clothing in tatters, the Guru reached Jandsar just before sunrise. His arrival caused a stir. Fearing recognition might lead to capture, the Guru hurried on. Sri Guru Gobind Singh pressed on turning east through Belhopur into the wild region of Machhiwara where he awaited the arrival of his companions in the forest. Having traversed nearly 20 miles with little rest, he at last slept on the hard bare lumpy earth. With no food available, the Guru subsisted on Akk leaves, a medicinal milkweed plant with caustic sap. Bereft of even the barest necessities, the Guru sang the hymn Shabad Hazaray Patishah 10 Mittar Pyare Nu.which tells of the false illusory comforts offered by the world that serve only to torment the soul separated from the Diviine Beloved. When the constables reached Gangus house, some neighbours peeped out. The constables ran to the back of the house and were surprised to see Mata Gurji ji and the two Sahibzadas sitting unconcerned. They apprised them of the Kotwals orders to arrest them. Mata Gujri ji embraced the two Sahibzadas who were ready to go. Sahibzada Zorawar singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh and Mata Gujri ji accommpanied the constables. A small crowd had collected outside the house Ganga was standing aside with downcast eyes. People were cursing him for his dishonesty and betrayal. A woman remarked How trecherous! He brought them to his house and then went and informed the authorities. They were wondering why the young innocent boys and respected old lady were being escorted to the police station. They were impressed by the divine looks and the graceful bearing of Mata ji. On arrival at the police station Mata Gujri ji and the two Sahibzadas were lodged in the Kotwali for the night. Both brothers listened to the tales of bravery of the followers of Guru Nanak, story of the unique martyrdom of Guru Arjun Dev Ji and Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji from their dear and affectionate grand mother. All three joined in reciting the sacred evening Sikh prayer, Rehras Sahib and Kirtan Sohila - before going to bed.
